Baby Shower Party Etiquette
A Baby Shower Party is a special, perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime, event for many mothers-to-be and an occasion for her to share with friends, rejoice in her pregnancy, and feel special.

Traditionally Baby Shower Parties are hosted by a non-relative of the mother-to-be.

A close friend, or friends, of the mother-to-be are the traditional hosts, although in recent years it has become acceptable for members of the extended family to host a Baby Shower Party.

These might include a grandmother-to-be, a cousin, sister-in-law, or anyone close to the mother-to-be, but not an immediate family member.
And it's not unusual for a Baby Shower Party to be hosted by a co-worker, or group of co-workers.

Increasingly, Baby Shower Parties are being hosted by two or more close friends and relatives to defray the costs and share the hosting responsibilities.

Etiquette NO-NO's

Everyone enjoys a party, and often it's a matter of 'any excuse will do', however the mother-to-be and her immediate family should NOT host a Baby Shower Party for her/their new arrival.

Reason. It will inevitably be seen as a selfish, gift-getting exercise with few or no-one attending. And, in the very worst instance, it can harm friendships.
